Baby Max | {Adored & Loved}

undefined What a treat it was to meet and photograph baby Max last Sunday morning. I must admit that I’d been waiting to meet him for quite some time…actually ever since his mom, Kerry, told me she was expecting last summer! We’d been talking and planning his newborn session all through her pregnancy! A little background about Kerry…I met she and her sister, Kristin, about two years ago at the Puyallup Farmer’s Market when I purchased an adorable tutu from them. A few weeks later, I returned to tell them how wonderful it was and offered to share some photos with them. From there…a business collaboration grew between all of us…and we became friends, which is actually, the best part of the deal. Not that I don’t LOVE what these gals do…they are quite talented and SO darn creative, but that aside, they are both such nice, kind, thoughtful and down to earth people who genuinely care about their families and friends…and those are just the kind of people I like to have as friends! So, back to Max…he arrived via c-section the Tuesday before and was just 5 days old…and was an angel during the entire session. Mom and dad warned me he didn’t like being naked, so thought it could be a challenge…well, between the heat (not sure, but it had to have been at least 80 degrees in the house) and the “white noise” he slept…and slept and slept! He did wake up twice to eat and at the end, was awake for the last few photos…but besides that, he was just perfect! Oh, so sweet and cuddly…I didn’t get too much time in holding him, but when I did, it was wonderful…there isn’t anything better than cuddling a newborn….ohhhh, it was wonderful! So, here we go…meet Max…just 5 days old!

undefined

Aren’t the ties he’s wearing the CUTEST…maybe by his “momma” and she has sold MANY of them…which is to be expected, so are a wonderful little accessory for boys…little and big alike!

undefinedundefinedundefined

Who can resist the tender moments with dad or the little bitty “parts of newborns…again, Max was SO good!!!

undefinedundefined

Big Sis, Maddy, LOVES her baby brother and was very gentle with him and just loves kissing him….I doubt this little guy will ever go long without kisses from someone in his family!!

undefined

This beautiful quilt with Max’s name on it…of course, it was made by his momma…another beautiful example of her talent….so jealous!!!

undefinedundefined

Okay, does Max not look like a little old man here…just SOOOO cute, these bow ties are priceless….as is he!!

undefined

undefined

Oh, how I love babies when they are sleeping…their sweet faces and endless expressions…I never tire of watching a baby sleep (okay, photographing them as well!).

undefined Kerry and Ed, what a beautiful baby boy you have and he’s a perfect addition to you family…I can only imagine how much love there is now with these sweet and healthy children you have…I look forward to photographing Max over the years ahead, along with precious Maddy!

Josh | {Bonney Lake Senior}

undefinedIt’s always refreshing to meet a soon to be high school graduate who is bright, friendly, smart and has a plan! That is exactly what Josh Kirk is…and on top of that, he’s a really nice guy. Thankfully, the weather cooperated last weekend for his session…as we had to cancel it earlier because of rain (gee, imagine that around here lately!).  We met at White River High School, where Josh attends and started on the soccer field as he’s played soccer there all through high school…and actually has played from the time he was a tiny tot, according to his mom.  The girls were warming up for a game and were kind enough to let us use the field for a few photos before we moved to another location. In talking with Josh, he is planning on attending college and deciding between WSU or UI, which just happen to be the colleges that my husband and I attended…so we told him that either way, great options and he can’t go wrong with them! Josh was fun to talk with about soccer, his plans for the future, his car and his recent family trip to DC.  He was very polite and respectful and it’s obvious he has a great head on his shoulders!

As you can see, Josh is proud of his car and has taken great care of it…

Best of luck to you, Josh, with your future…I am sure you will go far in life with your great attitude! It was a pleasure to meet you and your mom!!

Spring…are you out there? | {Puyallup}

Hello there…and welcome to April! It’s hard to believe that we are already in the fourth month of the year…as with the past few years, it just seems that the time goes by far to quickly! With April, our thoughts turn to daffodils, cherry blossoms, crocus, mowing our yards, bunnies and Easter eggs and more…oh, how I love this time of year…such a beautiful sign from nature of new growth, new life and more daylight! It’s the best!! This IS my favorite season of the year…that is WHEN we really get some of these signs! Here in Puyallup (and the Pacific Northwest, for that matter)…it seems that our winter has decided to hang on a bit longer…and although we haven’t had any snow…it’s been cooler and much wetter than normal, which is discouraging as I think we get a bit “antsy” and are ready to get outside. It’s been tough around here to do that…unless you have your umbrella or raincoat and are ready to get wet! There have been some “peeks” here and there…and I’m going to take those and hold on to those moments and trust that spring will eventually arrive! Today my husband and I were able to get some yard work done…while there is still LOTS more to do, it felt great to get a start and it does look better!

Last week, during one of those “peeks” my granddaughter and I enjoyed some time outside with some neighbors and the girls were so happy to get a chance to run around and burn up some energy! Here are some shots from the day…and some little signs of the season that I’m sure will eventually find it’s way here!

undefined

I’ll start with a photo of Mt. Rainier….taken from my son’s home at about 1 am in the morning. He called me one night (morning) at about 12:45 – and of course, when the phone rang, my heart stopped and when I answered it, he said I had to get to him house, RIGHT away…and to bring my camera! Then, he told me that the moon and the mountain were beautiful…and I had to photograph it! Well, since I was already WIDE awake (and my heart hadn’t quite slowed down yet), I decided to head over there…thankfully, it’s just a few minutes from our house! I’m glad he called and glad I went, but certainly don’t need a call like this ever time the moon is over the mountain!! I do love seeing Mt. Rainier…we are so blessed to live in this beautiful part of the country!

undefined

One day when Jayden and I headed to the park, she insisted her bear come along so that he wouldn’t miss out on seeing the ducks there!!

undefined

There still is lots of “green” to come, but I loved this scene…and as you can see, the ducks were quite happy to have some sunshine to enjoy…as were we!

undefined

Oh, I LOVE clouds and the various formations…so interesting and such a beautiful piece of artwork by nature!

undefined

Jayden was thrilled to have time with her friends…and bikes and scooters were finally getting a workout…a nice little treat for the girls!

undefined

Alanna is such a beautiful girl and a wonderful friend to Jayden…these girls are always full of giggles and smiles when together!undefined

Is Erica not one of the cutest little girls, ever! She had such a great time this afternoon…she LOVED Maddie (the dog), and was quite eager to “clean” for me…she can come and clean anytime she’d like!! Look at those eyes, aren’t they amazing!undefined

Even my son’s dog, Maddie, was enjoying the sun…it looks as though she’s just basking in the sun in this photo!undefined

Alanna and Jayden decided they wanted to play a game, but were not going inside…so they opted for the driveway…ahhh, to be a kid again!

undefined

I’m waiting on that green light…it’s sort of yellow around here, but I know it’ll turn soon…I hope everyone is enjoying spring, whereever you live….it’s an amazing time of the year!

Memories of Paradise | {kapturing Kauai}

Oh, the memories of paradise, warm weather, blue skies, sandy beaches, the sound of the ocean waves at night and so much more…that will have to carry us for a while during our re-adjustment back to reality!! It’s been a couple of days and we are bundled up with extra layers of clothes, and trying to open our eyes each morning without the sunshine to wake us…an adjustment, but it is one we are willing to do after having such a fabulous time in Kauai!  Work, laundry, chores, and life have come back into our daily lives and that is just fine…as much as we LOVED vacation…we LOVE our life, our family, our work and our home…so back to reality we go!

Here are a few more photos to share from our last couple of days on Kauai…nothing as exciting as the helicopter ride, but still beautiful and so relaxing…it’s a vacation we will remember for a lifetime and someday we will return there to explore a bit more of that piece of paradise!!

Here in Puyallup, there has actually been some sunshine this weekend and that’s been nice, even if the weekend has been filled with errands and chores…we did manage to get a walk in this afternoon with our granddaughter, dog and my cousin’s dog, who we are watching…it was a real treat and great to get some fresh air and exercise…and a sign that spring is on it’s way…some day!! I hope you all have had a great weekend and a good week ahead…it’s hard to believe that March is here…and later this month we’ll we welcoming a new season…and hopefully, some drier and warmer weather!!

undefined

Our trail on a great walk to find a waterfall….talk about natural beauty!!

undefined

Wailau Falls…we flew over this in the helicopter and then drove to it a couple of days later…great view, but the view from the helicopter was better!!

undefined

Couldn’t resist this entrance to the ranch…loved all the details and textures!!

undefined

Our trail to the falls and the stream we walked along side…SO peaceful…I LOVE places like this!!

undefined

Another great shot of the stream…taken by my wonderful husband…who has a great eye!!!!

undefined

Beach…footprints in the sand…the surf…my idea of one of the most peaceful places on earth!!

undefined

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the ocean waters…textures, colors and sounds!!

undefined

Our last beach walk…and we came across this branch with a lei blowing in the wind…how could I resist…all the elements fit together beautifully!

undefined

Palm trees, blue skies with puffy white clouds, the ocean and a warm breeze…truly a tropical paradise!!

undefined

One last beach shot of my hubby and I…and really, I did have a swim suit on…you just can’t see it….I promise!!!

undefined

Simple…what I like best…the contrast of the textures drew me right in!!!

undefined

Dog prints…just as good as the footprints…I love the details in the sand!

undefined

Another “drive-by” shooting…or walk by…as it really was…couldn’t resist…these two carrying the white boards had just finished a surfing lesson with the gentleman in the red board shorts!

undefined

As I look at this…I can hear the sounds of the ocean and the voices of the people…and feel the warmth of the sun…I miss it!!!

undefined

Another of the pier…loved how all the elements came into play for this…it wouldn’t have been the same with a perfectly clear sky!

undefined

Elements of design…it’s everywhere we look.

undefined

A beautiful old church, Wai’oli Hui’ia Church, in Hanalei was completed in 1912…what a beautiful landmark!

ALOHA…if anyone is ever considering heading to Kauai…I’d love to give you some suggestions…or ideas…it’s a wonderful place to visit and although different from each of the other islands…it has it’s own unique qualities which are wonderful and beautiful…and just waiting to be enjoyed by you!!

Paradise Gets BETTER! | {kapturing Kauai}

Greetings and aloha…from the beautiful (and very wet right now!) island of Kauai….we are actually sitting in the airport, waiting for our flight to Oahu and from there, we have one more flight, back to Seattle! It’s been a GREAT stay and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time here…and explored this wonderful, tropical location. As I’d said before, it was our first visit here and we will return, there is more to see. We didn’t “go-g0” on this vacation as we wanted some time to just relax and soak up a bit of the sunshine, so it’s been a nice blend of relaxing and sight-seeing…just perfect! Last night the rain arrived and did it ever rain…really hard, making us feel almost like we were back home in Puyallup!! This morning it was lighter rain as we loaded the car to head across the island to the airport, but by the time we arrived at the airport…it was POURING!! Oh well, I guess it’s just a way to make it easier for us to say “goodbye” to Kauai for now….and although we are returning to rain (and cold!) at home…it’s time, we miss the comforts and routine of home…well, not totally, but some things we miss!

Here are some photos from the middle of our time here…I’ll post another blog in a few days with the last couple of days here…so as to not overwhelm you right now! We did take a helicopter ride over the island on Monday and WOW…was that ever spectacular!! When we awoke that morning, it was quite cloudy and there were a few sprinkles on our way there, but it all worked out just great. This wasn’t a “doors-off” ride (next time, definitely!!), but it was still amazing…and we were lucky enough to get the front seats and therefore some wonderful photos to share with everyone the amazing view from “above” of this glorious island! So…here we go…..

undefined

One of the first scenic shots from the helicopter, just after we took off and started our tour of the island!!

undefined

Here we are –  after a “first” for us…but certainly not the last time we’ll do this…it was SO worth the cost….highly recommended!!!!

undefined

If you have followed me at all, you’ll know that I’m a “sun star” sort of gal…and so here’s one of many that I took while on the island…how could I resist….palm tree, sun, blue sky and some nice clouds!!

undefined

We were lucky enough while walking on Poi Pu beach to see this monk seal, just sunning himself! It was pretty neat…I have a book I’d bought my granddaughter a few years about about monk seals and now I can share this photo with her (and a short video I have of it as well).

undefined

Another spectacular view from the helicopter…there are so many great waterfalls on this island, but many are not easily found or seen from the ground…so this was a real treat to see them from above!!

undefined

Again…from the helicopter…the canyons were stunning…and the change in terrain was incredible to see from the air…even with the clouds (and rain) we had during the flight!
undefined

The Na Pali Coast, from the air…I just LOVE the waters…and the contrast from the white of the waves and the black and green of the cliffs on the coast…truly breathtaking!!

undefinedThis is Wailua Falls, which is one of those you can reach by car (and we did), but from the air…wow, a whole different perspective!!!
undefined

Sunset…one of our favorite parts of each day…not ever day had the color of this, but it was still beautiful being on the coast…we would usually sit on the patio and watch the surfers, the waves, sometimes the whales as the sun set…that’s just about perfect!!

undefined

Coming in, at the end of our helicopter ride….another view of the coast (the other side of the island)…I would never tire of seeing something like this…our pilot, Ben (Jack Harter Helicopters) was so knowledgeable and gave us great information about the island…and it was of no surprise, that he’s originally from Seattle!!

undefined

At a distance out, the view from our patio of the condo…we saw spouts nearly every day from the whales…and here, you can see, there are at least five of them together. Sometimes they would flip their tales and occasionally come out, but mostly it was what you see here!

undefined

Underneath the pier at Hanalei beach…loved the view and perspective…and of course, being around the water was a huge bonus…we came down to this beach several mornings and walked from one end to the other, about 3 1/2 miles round trip…such a GREAT walk, but then again, when walking on a beach, when isn’t it great!!!

undefined

Couldn’t resist this…love watching the kids at the beach and this little girl was just evaluation her sand castle…and from the back, I knew this had to be taken…so I did my “drive by shooting” which is “walk and shoot” as we strolled along!

undefined

When I found this snag on the beach, I knew I had to spend some time with it…and I did, on two occasions…so interesting and it definitely added interest to my photos…and the blue sky…it was that blue and so beautiful!!

undefined

Simple is sometimes the best…when I saw this leaf floating along, I couldn’t resist…and add the ripples of the water and the color of the sand….it was a MUST shoot kind of shot for me!

undefined

Another of the pier, this time, from above!! It was funny as the locals all park on the beach and surfing was quite popular around there…and many visitors were taking lessons…fun to watch and what a great beach to check out if you are ever on Kauai!

Time to return home…we are waiting for our first flight to Oahu, it’s running a bit late, I’m guessing because of the rain and winds…just hoping we get out on time, or close to it, so we make our next flight to Seattle. Not that being stuck an extra day in Hawaii is such a bad thing, but when your luggage is all checked and you just have the clothes on your back (oh, of course, the computer and the camera gear!)…it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun, and especially if it continues to rain….at this point, we are ready to return home…and get back to routine (well, sort of!!) and even if it’s colder at home, spring is on it’s way and it HAS to get warmer (and drier) soon!!  I hope this finds you all doing well and looking forward to the weekend, if it’s your weekend…Aloha, for now!

Paradise in Hawaii | {kapturing Kauai}

undefinedAloha from the beautiful island of Kauai…where it’s currently in the low 70’s and sunshine with a comfortable light breeze. I know you are all hating me right now because it seems that most of the country is either dealing with cold and snow, or winds and floods…I’m sorry…I truly wish everyone could enjoy this beautiful weather and scenery right now. Hey, we have an extra room at our condo…come on over and stay for a night or two! 🙂

This is our first trip to this beautiful island and so far, we are really enjoying it and taking in all that we can…that is without doing too much, because, after all, it is a vacation! One of our favorite parts about Hawaii, whatever island it is, is the beaches…the sand, the sounds of the waves coming ashore, the people watching and of course, the warm and gorgeous waters!! We’ve found a couple of beaches in our driving and walked along, barefoot, of course and plan to explore and find a few more before its time to head back home. I love the clouds, especially against the deep blue skies…and the details and patterns in this is just amazing…it’s truly incredible the glorious “art” that nature provides for us!! From our condo patio, we see the ocean and have been able to watch some whales breaching and spouting…they are fairly far out there, but it’s still fun to watch!

Our second night here there was quite a thunderstorm that lasted for hours and sounded as though we were in the middle of a war zone…truly, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a thunderstorm so loud and last for so long…and we lived in the South for several years and some some really good storms…this definitely topped it!! The next morning…blue skies, warm and gorgeous…talk about paradise…

I’ll share a few photos from our first few days here…and I hope you enjoy them…and maybe it will warm you up a bit if you are in a deep freeze right now (which is what it is at our home…talk about perfect timing in leaving!!). Have a great weekend and if I get a chance I’ll post a few more photos again before we head home…that is, if we aren’t too busy….relaxing and enjoying the beauty of Kauai

Ryley | {Refreshing}

Let me tell you, this sweet little girl was PURE delight the day I had the pleasure of photographing her. Ryley will turn one next month (and she’s walking…quite well, at that!) and so we had her session a bit early so they’d have the photos (and a book) for her party. It’s been almost two years since I first met her parents and her big brother, Roman, when I did his one year photos…and it was so nice to see them again and with their newest family member. Mom and dad are such nice and kind people and so fun and easy to work with…not to mention very creative (okay, that’s probably more mom than dad!!)…with the outfits and props…I LOVED everything they had for Ryley’s session. It seemed as everything fell into place…we actually shot twice during one day…morning at their home to give Ryley a chance to warm up to me…and the camera and then again in the afternoon (location shots), after nap and lunch…and it worked out beautifully…both the schedule and weather, we couldn’t have had it any better if we tried! So…without further ado…here is Ryley……………………………….

Roman is such a great big brother…and it was fun to see how he’d grown into a cute and energetic  toddler…he was a lot of fun (and energy!!) 🙂

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this sweet tutu and the strawberries…and you know it was a tad cool outside, but Ryley was quite content!!

Just hanging with her bike on the deck…

Ryley’s parents said that she loves being outside (along with Roman) and so we spent a lot of time out there in the morning!

Such a cute tutu and “ONE” shirt…just perfect for the cake smash!!

A kiss from big brother…he’s so sweet and kind with Ryley…wonder if he’ll feel like kissing her in front of the camera when he’s 16??!!

Such beautiful and enticing eyes…I just adore them and the twinkle they have just show her wonderful spirit!

Daddy and Ryley…you can see she really loves her daddy…she just cuddled right up next to him…so sweet!

A tender moment with mom and Ryley…both so beautiful…I could photograph them every day and continue to find new beauty in each of them…

With Ryley walking it gave us a bit more options and this railroad track was perfect and the softness with the beautiful light just brought out her beauty! And, this sweet scrunched up face…I love how the nose wrinkles up…and it’s almost like she’s winking…she was FUN!!!

Is this not a beautiful and sweet face….one that you just can’t get enough of!!

One of my favorites (though there were MANY) from the day…when Roman turned one, he used this as well…and how much fun to see another sweet “R” to add to the family!!

This was a wonderful day with this family…I really enjoyed all of them and am thankful we had such great weather! Of course, without the expert help of my assistant (my husband!!), it would have been a bit more work and who would have entertained Ryley so well while I was photographing her…he’s so helpful and great with the kids (big and little!)…thanks, dear!!
