Handsome Henry | {Puyallup Family Photographer}

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of meeting an adorable little guy who turned 6 months old just a couple of days after his session. Henry has the BEST brown eyes…deep and endless with amazing sparkle! A very sweet boy who is adored by mom and dad, Karina and Matt! It’s always a  delight to meet new families and even more so to to meet new families who are new parents…Karina and Matt are so in love with little Henry and just listening to them talk about their little guy was heartwarming…it’s truly the most precious thing to see parents who are not only in love with one another, but so in love with their new child…and this couple is truly in awe of their little guy! Henry was quite interested in all the activity at the park and watching everything…it was fun to see just how alert and observant he was…although that made it hard to get his attention…I really wasn’t nearly as interesting as everything else that was around that. With that being said…we did get some great smiles and his eyes really stole the show through the whole session…he’s a sweet little baby who I thoroughly enjoyed spending some time with on a pleasant summer morning…

FAMILY | {2014 Monthly Project}

It’s hard to believe that the first month of 2014 is wrapping up – the time just passes far too quickly these days! After doing a 365 (daily photograph) project last year, I wasn’t sure just what I wanted to do this year, but I had decided to not do a 365. There have been two years recently that I did a 365 and both have been rewarding, fun and a great learning process, but by the end of the each year, I knew I needed a break. They are amazing projects, but also demanding…you can’t let it go a single day for the year, so there is pressure and sometimes it has felt like a chore, BUT with that being said, I wouldn’t have not done them!

So, this year I am doing a monthly project, a theme so to speak, with a series of photos tied to the theme…and I’ve decided to do it with someone else, sort of a team project. That “someone” else is our oldest granddaughter, who is 8 years old. Jayden has been a subject of my photos for nearly all her life and often asks if she can take a photo when I’m shooting…and she often has ideas about the photos I’m taking when she’s around. So…our first month’s theme is FAMILY – and we both have shot some photos that represent what family is to us and will each write a bit to go along with the photos.

Here’s my series of photos…a couple are from last month and there are a couple that are even older.FAMILYFamily…the definition according to Wikipedia is: a family (from Latinfamilia) is a group of people affiliated by consanguinity (by recognized birth), affinity (by marriage), or co-residence/shared consumption (see Nurture kinship). Personally, it’s not only those you are related to by blood and/or marriage, but also those you you form a close bond with…a connection that is strong and feels like family!  Family can change over time as well…there are marriages, divorces, relationships, births, deaths…all changing the family that you have with you and through all of that, you can either develop a closer connection to your “family” or let it slip away. Personally, I couldn’t be more thankful for my family…every single one of them…and even those who are no longer with us. Sometimes I think that the family that has passed away helps us to strengthen the bond with those who are still here. Six years ago, my dad passed away and there are still days that the loss is still fresh and heartbreaking, but I am very grateful for everything I learned from him and it has helped me learn to be thankful for each and every day spent with family and friends. I love my family, am thankful for them and am proud of each of them!

The below photos are from Jayden with her words about the photos…I have loved sharing this first month with her and look forward to the next 11 months and our projects!

I’m Jayden…my family is fun and silly and cool and awesome. I love my family!January 30, 2014_P1010408editEmma is the best cousin in the world!January 30, 2014_P1010413editThis is my aunt Jessie and cousin…and I can’t wait for the new baby to come…I will get a new cousin and our family will be bigger!January 22, 2014_P1010381This is my friend, Jocelyn and her brother, Tyler…Jocelyn loves Tyler…she would do anything for him. That’s what family does.

Family can be very special, they can be funny, smart, they can be helpful and they can be wonderful. I hope you all have a wonderful family and love them.

Thank you for sharing in our first monthly project…stay tuned for next month when we have a new theme and new photos…

Brothers…Matthew & Cameron | {Tacoma Family Photography}

What a fun session I had with these two brothers…both as cute as a button and so very sweet. Matthew and Cameron maybe be brothers, but it was already obvious they will be friends…for life…watching how great Matthew was with Cameron, concerned and caring, was such a heartwarming sight. And, it’s quite evident that Cameron LOVES his big brother and he can’t wait until he’s moving a bit faster to keep up with him. Boys…both are all boy and full of energy, moving constantly and HAPPY!! These little guys were visiting family with their mom…they are from Florida and I loved that I had the chance to meet and photograph them. We met at the UW Tacoma campus as that is where both mom and dad went to school, so it has special memories for the family and to bring the boys there seemed perfect! We started out with a cloudy morning, but by the time we wrapped up the session, the clouds were breaking and the sun was beginning to shine…great timing as it was also getting a bit warmer.

Meet Matthew, he’s three years old and has the CUTEST smile and is so sweet! When we met, he was a bit reserved and wasn’t sure he wanted to smile, but once I pulled out some trucks, the ice was broken and he was my buddy for the session. We did our share of playing…with the trucks, bubbles and the sidewalk chalk! His favorite color is green and he LOVES dinosaurs…he knows a lot about them, I wish we’d had more time so he could tell me more about why he loves them! Maybe next time!!

Cameron, nearly 10 months old, is a very happy little guy! Full of smiles, lots of drooling (you can see his teeth and the new ones on the way!), and loves exploring. Keeping him still was our challenge although between his mom and myself, we found a few things that at least distracted him for a bit. Right from the start, he was happy…all the way through the session (other than during a diaper change as he couldn’t roam around!)…what a delightful little guy who kept his eyes on his brother and wanted to be where and do what he was doing…just watch out, Matthew, once Cameron is walking, you will have a shadow right behind you!!!

Matthew loved running (and jumping)…a fast little guy who just kept on going…oh, the energy of a three year old, if only we could bottle some of that!!!

Oh, the trucks, they were enjoyed by both boys…but then again, what boys don’t want to play with trucks!!

As you can see, Cameron wants to give bubble blowing a try…or maybe sucking the bubbles (uck!) from the wand…he sure had fun trying!!

Oh, Cameron’s eyes…love, love, love…he is going to have the girls following him as he gets older (as is his big brother!!).

Look at that smile…so darn sweet!

Cameron was nearly 10 months old during the session, so his mom had the perfect shirt…jersey…for him to wear…#10, for Jake Locker!!

These photos say it all…they sure love and adore one another…SO darn cute, these brothers!!!!

And, it was time to leave…at least for Cameron!!

I had a blast with these boys and am looking forward to seeing them again in December for some family photos…I can only imagine how much they will grow and change…I do know that I’ll be busy running after both the boys as I’m sure Cameron will be following Matthew by then!!
