Baby #2 On The Way… | {Swift Family}

Oh, the joy and excitement a couple has when expecting a child…it’s a wonderful, scary and at times, overwhelming feeling. And, when it’s the second, everything might be a bit more heightened….thinking what are we doing, adding another little one that means you now need four hands to take care of two, less sleep, another mouth to feed and possibly more tears…but the rewards, more love to give and to receive!! This couple is anticipating their new little one, due to arrive at the end of July…a boy to add to their sweet little family – a baby brother for big sister, Abigail…such excitement! It’s especially exciting for me to see this family at this stage of their lives…I’ve known dad (aka, Michael) since he was four years old and we lived in Tennessee…he and our son were good friends and went to school together. We moved away from Tennessee, but have remained close friends with his family and I met mom (Allison)  before the two were engaged and then had the pleasure of doing their engagement photos as well as their wedding. When they were expecting Abigail, I was a bit sad since they lived in Tennessee and I was in Washington…I was missing out on the possibility to photograph their new little one. While I didn’t get around when she was a newborn, I did have the opportunity to photograph her (and her parents) whenever I visited Abigail’s Nana and Papa out there. Spring forward to Fall 2011…guess who moved to Washington?!! Talk about exciting for me (and my family)…and sad for their Tennessee families…they even live in the same town that we do…and shortly after getting settled, they announced they were expecting! Oh, we were thrilled for them and are so excited to meet their son next month! Big sister, Abigail, is a sweetie and so darn smart…I always am laughing when I’m around her…and when we did their maternity session…she had us laughing a lot. Of course, she’s two…so she didn’t always want to do what we wanted her to do as two  year olds will do, but that was okay…she did her thing and it was just fine! Mama…is truly glowing…I loved being able to capture some of Allison’s beauty and the excitement of this time of their lives. We had nearly perfect weather this morning and I couldn’t have been more excited about the photos afterwards. I know that they are really anxious to see the photos, so for now, this will have to hold them over until the rest are ready…

Michael and Allison are wonderful parents and so excited about their newest little one’s upcoming arrival!!Isn’t Allison just stunning?! Such a beautiful person…inside and out and this pregnancy has her glowing that much more!Abigail was excited to show Mom and Dad the feather she found! I must say that my husband is the BEST…he and Abigail went on adventures during most of the session and he made it much easier to photograph them without keeping track of a two year old who likes to explore!!

What a beautiful family…I can’t wait until I get to introduce you all to their son next month when he arrives!!

Cute, precocious and very smart….she keeps you on your toes, just ask her parents!!!

Michael and Allison…I’m so excited for you two to welcome your son and love that I’ve had the opportunity to capture some special memories for your family! We love having you close and know that we consider you as our family…and for your Tennessee families…I know you miss them all dearly…come visit often and know that we are always here when they need anything! CAN’T wait until our next session!!!!!

Watching family and friends go through the various stages of relationships and life is so rewarding and to be able to follow clients as well…it doesn’t get much better than that! Nearly four years ago, Jerad and LeeAnn were married and I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding…sharing in a very special day for the two of them, as well as getting acquainted with their families.  Meeting people, getting to know them, creating friendships…those are the best parts of my job! Of course, I must confess, I’ve known LeeAnn since she was in junior high school…she and our son were good friends and have remained so over the years and to see her now…well, I love seeing what a beautiful woman she’s become, a great wife and now, soon to be mother…SO excited!!! We had a chance to peek at the nursery before our session and share some stories of preparing for a child…and this little boy (yes, it’s a boy!) is going to be one very lucky little guy…he’s going to have awesome parents who couldn’t be more excited for his arrival!

LeeAnn and Jerad have done everything they need to in order to prepare for their son’s arrival…and as with all expected moms, reading about what is ahead is a big part of the plan!

Lots of laughing was part of this session…let me just say how much fun I had with these two on this afternoon!

BEAUTIFUL…LeeAnn is truly glowing and looks great…I’m so happy her pregnancy is going so well!

Jerad is quite the artist, much to my surprise! We brought chalk for the chalkboard and he decided to create a bit of his own art in honor of Carson…wow, what talent and he had a good time “designing!”Besides being an artist, he’s also a good sport and helped carry things, including LeeAnn’s coat…we told him he was Little Red Riding Hood…or maybe that would be “Grey Riding hood!”

Did I not say beautiful…she’s a beautiful woman and pregnancy is only enhancing it!
LLOVE LOVE LOVE this photo…their expressions and they were having a good time!!

I think my absolute favorite from the session….LeeAnn, you are stunning!!!!

Jerad and LeeAnn, you two are a really neat couple and I’m so blessed to know you two and be able to be a part of the exciting times of your lives! I’ll be anxiously awaiting to hear of Carson’s arrival and so very excited to capture some special photos of your son once he arrives!!

Advanced Pro; lesson ONE | {LeeAnn & Jerad}

LeeAnn and Jerad are a wonderful couple who I’ve known for many years and had the pleasure of shooting their wedding nearly four years ago. It’s exciting to follow them now to the next chapter in their lives as they prepare for a new little one to join them later this spring. We were fortunate the weather was dry and not freezing, so that worked in our favor and they were both excited about getting their session in outdoors rather than in the studio. For this lesson for our first assignment, I scouted a location, a place I’ve driven by, but never used before. So the morning before the session, I returned to look at it again and that was helpful. I also made the decision we’d drive a mile or so down the road after that location for a bit of diversity, to a park on the waterfront. The week before the session I searched online for some new and different ideas poses and/or props to use during the session. I contacted them with some ideas and asked for a few props (baby items) from them and came up with a few on my own. This was very helpful, not to mention inspiring with some new ideas for my maternity shoots. During most of my sessions, I’m fortunate enough to have my husband (he calls himself  my “sherpa”) to help with props, carrying things for bouncing light from the reflector. Our first location was great…I loved the light and the wall behind them, but there were a few obstacles I hadn’t noticed upon scouting…some crazy blackberry vines (which can be quite spiky and sharp!!!) and we found tons of “landmines” aka dog piles, which created some obstacles to work around, along with the blackberry vines. My preparation was very helpful and communicating ideas to the couple beforehand also helped prepare them for how the session would go. What I learned – REALLY walk around the location, looking up and DOWN, when scouting, just so your are prepared…as we drove home, I had to leave my shoes (a bit stinky!!) in the back of the vehicle because I tend to not look down when photographing, my eyes are always scanning the area and thinking about how I can get more out of the area!
