Ryley | {Refreshing}

Let me tell you, this sweet little girl was PURE delight the day I had the pleasure of photographing her. Ryley will turn one next month (and she’s walking…quite well, at that!) and so we had her session a bit early so they’d have the photos (and a book) for her party. It’s been almost two years since I first met her parents and her big brother, Roman, when I did his one year photos…and it was so nice to see them again and with their newest family member. Mom and dad are such nice and kind people and so fun and easy to work with…not to mention very creative (okay, that’s probably more mom than dad!!)…with the outfits and props…I LOVED everything they had for Ryley’s session. It seemed as everything fell into place…we actually shot twice during one day…morning at their home to give Ryley a chance to warm up to me…and the camera and then again in the afternoon (location shots), after nap and lunch…and it worked out beautifully…both the schedule and weather, we couldn’t have had it any better if we tried! So…without further ado…here is Ryley……………………………….

Roman is such a great big brother…and it was fun to see how he’d grown into a cute and energetic  toddler…he was a lot of fun (and energy!!) 🙂

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this sweet tutu and the strawberries…and you know it was a tad cool outside, but Ryley was quite content!!

Just hanging with her bike on the deck…

Ryley’s parents said that she loves being outside (along with Roman) and so we spent a lot of time out there in the morning!

Such a cute tutu and “ONE” shirt…just perfect for the cake smash!!

A kiss from big brother…he’s so sweet and kind with Ryley…wonder if he’ll feel like kissing her in front of the camera when he’s 16??!!

Such beautiful and enticing eyes…I just adore them and the twinkle they have just show her wonderful spirit!

Daddy and Ryley…you can see she really loves her daddy…she just cuddled right up next to him…so sweet!

A tender moment with mom and Ryley…both so beautiful…I could photograph them every day and continue to find new beauty in each of them…

With Ryley walking it gave us a bit more options and this railroad track was perfect and the softness with the beautiful light just brought out her beauty! And, this sweet scrunched up face…I love how the nose wrinkles up…and it’s almost like she’s winking…she was FUN!!!

Is this not a beautiful and sweet face….one that you just can’t get enough of!!

One of my favorites (though there were MANY) from the day…when Roman turned one, he used this as well…and how much fun to see another sweet “R” to add to the family!!

This was a wonderful day with this family…I really enjoyed all of them and am thankful we had such great weather! Of course, without the expert help of my assistant (my husband!!), it would have been a bit more work and who would have entertained Ryley so well while I was photographing her…he’s so helpful and great with the kids (big and little!)…thanks, dear!!

Family Time | {Special Memories}

Yesterday morning I woke to grey skies and rain…and after looking at the forecast showing rain most of the day…I must say that I was nervous. Later that morning I had a session scheduled with a family and it had to be done that day…dad is in the Army and has been on leave, but heads out again in a few days…so I knew that one way or another…this had to happen! Driving to Tacoma it rained, rained some more and then rained even harder…ugh…I wondered how many covered places could we find?? Upon meeting up with the Lizotte family…the rain was diminishing and amazingly, after just a short time…it stopped!! Phew…and thank you!!!! It was chilly, but they were all great sports and it was fun to wander around and let them explore a bit as I captured some special photos for them. Hailey, who I’ve photographed before, is very sweet, but I must say, she’s an active little one…one shot and she was off and running – which certainly kept me on my toes…and helped me stay warm…so thank you, Hailey!  It was refreshing to see the family together, even if just for a short time…I can’t even imagine how the military families do this…being separated for so long and a parent back at home, being both mom and dad while the other is serving our country…my gratitude goes out to the families and their spouses who are serving overseas! It was evident that Hailey enjoyed having her dad around…and he was great with her and the two of them seemed to have a lot of fun as we wandered around this cold morning! I’m so grateful we were able to schedule this and especially that the rain stopped so we could shoot outside…it was my pleasure to spend some time with this delightful family…and I wish the very best for them for the holidays…even if they won’t be together…hopefully, they can hold on to the memories of their times together!

Time together is what’s important and this family is making the most of the time they have right now…that’s certainly something to be treasured!

Hailey never turned down a chance to dance and twirl…and in her darling dress…she was as pretty as could be!

I love this photo of Hailey with her dad…it shows that they are both happy to be together and enjoy having a good time!

This beautiful little face was created out of love…and as you can see, she is loved and they all love one another…what is more special than that!?!

Thank you, Matt, Tara and Hailey for a fun session…despite the weather, all worked out and it was my pleasure to capture some family photos of you while Matt is home…be safe Matt…and thank you for your service to our country…and to Tara and Hailey for allowing him to do so!

A Rainy Afternoon | {Josh, Amanda & Jayden}

Lesson two for this great course, Advanced Pro with Brooke Snow, and I’m loving the ideas, inspiration and encouragement…it’s just what I needed, especially this time of year. Late winter/early spring around the Pacific Northwest is a real questionable time of year for weather…it’s completely unpredictable and nearly impossible to plan outdoor sessions, without being somewhat flexible. My session for this week became subject to the crazy weather and it required we move the session indoors, although near the end, the rain let up and we moved outside for part of it as well. My subjects…or maybe they might call themselves “victims” for this week were our son, his girlfriend and his daughter…as well as two dogs, one being about 12 weeks old! Our granddaughter is 6 years old and very used to the camera, but had just returned home from a classmates birthday party, so was a tad bit “energized” and the dogs, especially the puppy…well, totally unpredictable (even worse than the weather!). Planning and posing ideas were all running through my mind and although I was able to utilize some of them, a lot of the time, I had to just adapt to what was happening and try to keep things moving along. I suppose, I should have expected a bit of a challenge before I even began because our son tends to be a goof whenever the camera comes out…following directions was a challenge for him…he either was making crazy faces or laughing…and trying to get some “serious” photo…well, that took some work. The planning did help with that, I must say…I just moved them past those “crazy” photos into something else and in the end, I was happy with what I was able to capture. Thankfully, their living room has windows across the front, so that allowed a LOT of light coming in and my husband helped by adding some fill light with the reflector where needed…thank goodness today’s cameras are much better with higher ISO’s!! Of course, I wasn’t able to “freeze” the dogs very often, unless they were being held…just keeping them out of the photos was a challenge as they were continually “wrestling” around the living room and even under me as we were shooting! Oh, the joys of kids and animals…I love it!!
